In a complementary service to the traditional “build to print” model, STI set up a Research and Development team in 2011 to work with both new and existing customers much earlier in the development cycle for electronic products. This team aims to initiate a project right back at the concept stage, offering the customer the full range of industrial design, hardware, software and mechanical engineering capabilities.
We work in partnership with the customer on the full range of architecture layout and technology choices as well as providing access to all-new technology coming via STI’s expanding relationships with local universities, notably the Electronic and Computer Sciences School at Southampton University.
The R&D team now has headcount of 12 engineers – with capability including Schematic design, Layout (Pads and OrCad, with Bureau support for other versions), Hardware and technology development, Firmware creation and development, plus full Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering, including environmental testing, design verification and tooling development. The R&D team also support accreditations and verifications testing to achieve necessary market approvals such as R&TTE, CE, PTCRB, FCC, UL etc.
In its aim to become a true electronics manufacturing and technology partner to its clients, the new STI R&D team has already found significant interest in its capabilities and has become a major driver of new business for the company. Case studies are available on request.
