Surface Technology International Ltd (STI) announced in September 2013 a new partnership with Hetech Pty. Ltd of Brisbane, Australia to enable UK and European customers capitalize on Hetech’s engineering expertise whilst Hetech can offer their customers access to high-volume production at the STI Philippines (STI-P) facility in Asia.
Both companies are united by their specialisation in Contract Electronics Manufacturing (CEM) and have invested in high-end technology, achieving extensive certification within their respective market sectors. Hetech has now reached the next stage in its growth plan.
“We had completely outgrown our previous site” advised Mark Steiner, Hetech General Manager. “We’ve been looking for new premises for some time and this was not a stage we could rush as we have high value equipment to move and re-install” he added. “We are delighted with the new manufacturing unit in Underwood as it offers better office space, a superior manufacturing floor plan and, overall, a much bigger footprint which we desperately needed”.
STI, with their experience in the defence, aerospace, automotive, telecoms, medical, satellite and commercial sectors, complements Hetech’s areas of expertise. STI is headquartered in the UK but also has a manufacturing facility in Asia, based in Cebu, Philippines. This facility is a mirror of the well-established UK operation in terms of quality, equipment and processes but is set up to offer high-volume manufacturing, operating 24/7.
The new partnership was showcased when Hetech attended the “ElectroneX 2013” (Electronics Design & Assembly Expo), in Melbourne. Mark Steiner has made several business trips to the STI-P manufacturing facility, not only to see some projects all the way through manufacturing but also to build deeper relationships with the STI-P team. Simon Cruddace, Sales Director for STI Ltd, planned his last trip to coincide with Mark’s as part of the future planning of the global partnership for the two businesses.
Simon Best, Managing Director of STI, commented on the relationship: “In our Global operational plan, this is an important link for STI in both the UK and the Philippines. We have been operating in the Asian market for over 3 years now, but the experience and knowledge Hetech offers will enable us to expand into new markets and draw on Hetech’s experience of CEM manufacturing within new sectors and different geographies.”
