Lapu-Lapu City – Surface Technology International Philippines supported and attended its first medical/dental mission on 30 June, 2012 in Brgy San Vicente, Olango Island, Cebu. The adopted island, Barangay, was solely chosen for the reason that the inhabitants in this area rarely see white-clad doctors and nurses and need the most medical support.
In this public service undertaking, fifty locals received free medical attention from an Internal Medicine Practitioner and from a Pediatrician. They received free blood pressure checks and a blood test to be set off for testing Blood Sugar, Cholesterol and Complete Blood Count. They also received free multi-vitamins.
Another set of fifty locals were given a full dental consultation (no tooth extraction was done on the day!). The doctors made sure that each patient was examined thoroughly and was given medical advice thereafter. STI-P provided free medication such as pain-killers and anti-biotics. All patients received an invaluable dental kit each.
It was a priceless experience for STI-P’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee since they were able to help the less fortunate individuals on behalf of STI. The patients were mostly indigents and vastly un-educated and extremely poor, with some barely able to afford a roof over their head. They came because they had hopes of being seen and listened to and maybe be cured.
It is STI-P’s intention to support this effort next year and with a larger support team!
