STI Fundraising: Supporting Victims of Typhoon Haiyan

STI Fundraising: Supporting Victims of Typhoon Haiyan

On 7th and 8th November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines causing widespread devastation.  STI-P was fortunate to suffer minimal damage due to the location of its manufacturing facility, but there were significant after-effects in the wider Filipino community.

“In November, Danny Romero, our Head of Sales in Cebu, led a team to the worst affected areas to deliver emergency food packs” said Simon Best, Managing Director“In the UK we held some “Bake-offs”, Raffles and general collection days to raise money with the aim of assisting Filippino’s worst affected.  We chose to donate the money raised to The Springboard Foundation based in Manila as they work extremely closely within the Filippino Community; just recently our colleagues in STI-P were able to handover a cheque of £5,000 directly to The Springboard Foundation.”

The Springboard Foundation was established in 2002 and works with other local Filipino foundations to carry out support work with those who most need help within their local communities, especially making a difference to the lives of children in need.  Springboard is benefiting from the broad-based knowledge and experience of their partners who are well established in their local communities. Hope has replaced despair in many places.

In choosing Springboard, STI considered the transparency of their funding and financial accounts and their track record in diligently implementing their announced projects. Together with their partners, the Springboard Foundation has become a strong force in making lasting changes for the children of the Philippines.

Annette Helbig, President & CEO of the Springboard Foundation, travelled to the STI-P factory earlier in the month to receive the STI donation cheque.  “We are delighted to receive this donation, it will go towards the support we can offer families to help rebuild the homes they have lost.  We are extremely grateful for STI’s support and contribution and hopefully we can work together in the future”, she said.

The Directors of STI would like to thank all the staff in Hook for their efforts in the fundraising drive and to acknowledge the anonymous gifts as well as the generous donations made by Friends, Suppliers and Business Partners.
